The Mark of the Beast: More Than a Technology—A Declaration of Allegiance

PART 2

Part 2 explains why those who have been born again, transferred into God’s Kingdom, and sealed with the Holy Spirit belong to Christ and need not fear receiving the Beast’s mark.

Can a Born-Again Christian Receive the Mark of the Beast?

One of the greatest fears among Christians today is the possibility of accidentally receiving the Mark of the Beast.

Many wonder whether a future government mandate, digital identification system, biometric technology, or implanted device could somehow cause a believer to receive the mark and lose their salvation.

Many wonder whether a future government mandate, digital identification system, biometric technology, or implanted device could somehow cause a believer to receive the mark and lose their salvation.

The Bible presents a very different picture.

To answer this question, we must first understand the spiritual condition of every human being at birth.

Born into the Kingdom of Darkness

Every person enters this world physically alive but spiritually separated from God.

When Adam sinned, sin entered the human race, and death spread to all mankind because all humanity descended from Adam (Romans 5:12–19).

This means every person is born with a sinful nature and begins life in the kingdom of darkness.

  • No one is born a child of God.
  • No one is born into God’s Kingdom.
  • We are born separated from God and in need of reconciliation.

That is why Jesus told Nicodemus:

«"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God... unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." (John 3:3–5)»

Jesus did not teach that people become part of God’s Kingdom by trying harder, becoming religious, or doing good works.

He said we must be born again.

He said we must be born again.

  • Physical birth places us into the kingdom of this world.
  • Spiritual birth places us into the Kingdom of God.

What Happens When We Are Born Again?

The moment a sinner believes the gospel of Jesus Christ, God performs a miraculous work that no human effort could ever accomplish.

  • God forgives every sin.
  • He declares the believer righteous through the righteousness of Christ.
  • He gives eternal life.
  • He unites the believer with Christ.
  • He adopts the believer into His family.
  • He makes the believer a new creation.

Most importantly, He transfers the believer out of Satan’s kingdom and into the Kingdom of His beloved Son.

Paul writes:

«”For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son.” (Colossians 1:13)»

Notice the certainty of these words.

  • God has rescued us.
  • God has transferred us.

This is not something believers hope will happen one day.

  • It happens the moment they believe the gospel.
  • From that moment onward, the believer belongs to Jesus Christ.
  • Sealed by the Holy Spirit Forever
  • At the moment of salvation, God also places His own seal upon every believer.

Ephesians 1:13–14 says:

«”In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise.”»

Paul continues in Ephesians 4:30:

«”Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”»

Likewise, 2 Corinthians 1:21–22 says God “sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.”

In the ancient world, a seal identified ownership, authenticity, and protection. God’s seal declares that every believer belongs to Him. Unlike the temporary kingdoms of this world, God’s seal is permanent. It guarantees that those who belong to Christ will remain His until the day of redemption.

Jesus Himself confirmed this promise:

«”My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.” (John 10:27–29)»

Paul adds:

«”For I am convinced that neither death, nor life… nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38–39)»

Our citizenship is no longer rooted in this world.

«”For our citizenship is in heaven…” (Philippians 3:20)»

God’s Seal or the Beast’s Mark?

The Book of Revelation presents two distinct groups of people.

  • There are those who belong to the Lamb.
  • There are those who belong to the Beast.

God’s people bear His seal.

The Beast’s followers bear his mark.

There is no third group belonging to both.

Just as the Mark of the Beast identifies those who belong to the Beast’s kingdom, God’s seal identifies those who belong to Christ.

The two marks represent two different kingdoms, two different rulers, and two different eternal destinies.

Can a Born-Again Christian Receive the Mark?

When these biblical truths are considered together, the answer becomes clear.

  • A person who has truly been born again has already been transferred into the Kingdom of God.
  • They have already been united with Christ.
  • They have already been sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.
  • They already belong to the Lamb.

For that reason, a genuinely born-again Christian cannot receive the Mark of the Beast.

The mark belongs to those who remain in the kingdom of darkness and willingly give their worship and allegiance to the Beast.

The believer belongs to another King and another Kingdom.

Rather than living in fear of accidentally receiving the Beast’s mark, Christians should rejoice that they already bear God’s seal and can rest in the finished work of Jesus Christ.

The question every person must answer is not, “Will I receive the Mark of the Beast?”

The far greater question is:

Have I been born again?

Those who have trusted in Jesus Christ alone have been rescued from the kingdom of darkness, transferred into the Kingdom of God, sealed forever with the Holy Spirit, and have their names written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
