One of the clearest truths in the New Testament is that Jesus Christ is fully God—eternal, uncreated, and equal with the Father in essence, power, and glory—who became a real man in order to be the substitutionary sacrifice for the sin of Adam and all humanity, rise from the dead on the third day, conquer sin and death, and freely give eternal life, forgiveness, and His own perfect righteousness to everyone who believes the gospel the apostles preached.
1. Thomas: “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28)

After the resurrection, the risen Jesus appears to the disciples. Thomas, who had doubted, sees the wounds in Jesus’ hands and side and exclaims:
“My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28)
Jesus does not correct him or say, “No, Thomas, I’m just a prophet.” He accepts the worship and commends Thomas’ faith (v. 29). In Jewish ears this was unmistakable: Thomas confesses that the crucified and now-risen Jesus is none other than Yahweh in human flesh.
2. Paul: Jesus is the Great God and Savior
Paul, the strict monotheist and former Pharisee, repeatedly declares the full deity of Christ:
- Titus 2:13 — “…our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.”
- Romans 9:5 — Christ “who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen.”
- Philippians 2:6 — Who, “being in the form of God…equality with God.”
- Colossians 2:9 — “In Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form.”
Paul never calls any created being “God.” Yet he calls Jesus God—because He is.
3. Other Apostolic Confessions
- Peter: “Our God and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:1).
- Hebrews 1:8 — The Father says to the Son, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever.”
- John 1:1, 14 — “The Word was God… and the Word became flesh.”
4. Jesus Himself Claimed Deity
- John 10:30 — “I and the Father are one.” The Jews understood this as a claim to be God and tried to stone Him (10:33).
- John 8:58 — “Before Abraham was, I AM.” Again they picked up stones.
- Jesus accepted worship repeatedly (Matt 14:33; 28:9, 17; John 9:38; Heb 1:6; Rev 5:12–14)—something angels and men always refuse.
5. Why the Eternal God Became Man
The eternal Son of God added a real human nature to His divine nature (the Incarnation) so that He could be the Savior. Because of Adam’s sin, all humanity was guilty and under death (Rom 5:12–19). Only a sinless Man could die in the place of men; only God could bear and exhaust the infinite wrath of God. Jesus, the God-Man, did both—perfectly.
“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures… was buried… and was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures” (1 Cor 15:3–4).
6. The Resurrection: Proof That He Is God and That the Sacrifice Was Accepted
His bodily resurrection on the third day is the divine seal that He is the Son of God (Rom 1:4), that the Father accepted His sacrifice, and that sin and death are forever defeated for all who belong to Him.
Because He lives, everyone who believes the apostolic gospel receives complete forgiveness, justification (Christ’s righteousness credited to them), regeneration (born again), and eternal life (Rom 5:1; 2 Cor 5:17, 21; Titus 3:5–7).
The Muslim Double Standard

Muslims often insist, “Jesus never said the exact words ‘I am God,’ so He is not God.”
By that same logic, Muhammad never once says in the Qur’an, “I am a prophet” or “I am the messenger of Allah.”
If the test is “he must personally say the exact sentence,” then Muhammad fails his own test and is not a prophet. The argument is special pleading.
Debunking Common Objections
Jehovah’s Witnesses

They translate John 1:1 as “the Word was a god” and teach Jesus is Michael the archangel.
→ The Greek grammar demands “the Word was God.” Their insertion of “a” is rejected by virtually all.
Greek scholars.
→ Angels refuse worship; Jesus receives it (Heb 1:6; Rev 5).
Islam
Islam denies both the crucifixion and the deity of Christ—claims made 600 years later, contradicting every first-century witness. The apostles who walked with Jesus died proclaiming He is the risen Lord and God.
Conclusion

The eternal Son of God became man, lived without sin, died as the substitute for sinners, and rose triumphant on the third day—proving He is Lord and God, that His blood fully atones, and that death has no power over Him.
To be saved forever, a guilty sinner does not need rituals, works, or a lifetime of effort. The apostles proclaimed one simple, glorious condition:
“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved… For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:9, 13).
This is not a mere verbal formula or “sinner’s prayer” repeated without understanding. It is a heart-and-soul trust in the real, historical Jesus—who He is (the Lord God in human flesh) and what He has done (died for our sins and rose victorious). Saying words while rejecting or ignoring the apostolic gospel about the deity, death, and resurrection of Christ profits nothing. But the moment a sinner truly believes that gospel—trusting Christ alone as the crucified and risen Lord God—God instantly forgives every sin, credits Christ’s perfect righteousness to their account, regenerates them by the Holy Spirit, and seals them eternally as His own.
Jesus Christ is Lord—Yahweh in human flesh, the great God and Savior who loved us and gave Himself for us. To Him belong glory, honour, and power forever and ever. Amen.
