GRACE VS LAW

  • Genesis 2:17 BSB
  • but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; for in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.”

The Penalty for breaking God’s law was death.

  • Romans 6:23 BSB
  • For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

A question to consider

When Yeshua went to the cross and died for our sin. How many sins did He die for? When He went to the cross, we hadn’t comitted a single sin, as we were not yet born. All our sins were in the future. Therefore Yeshua died for our past, present and future sins, as well as Adams sin.

Adams sin is the power of sin that works in us. The fruit, or evidence that the power of sin is working in us is that we all have lied, stolen, blaspheme His name, commit adultery in our heart etc. The law simply exposes our sinful condition before a Holy God and shows us our need for a Saviour.

  • Galatians 2:19-21 BS
  • [19] For through the law I died to the law so that I might live to God. [20] I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. [21] I do not set aside the grace of God. For if righteousness comes through the law, Christ died for nothing.
  • Romans 8:2 BSB
For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death.
  • Romans 10:4 BSB
For Christ is the end of the law, to bring righteousness to everyone who believes.
  • Galatians 3:22-27 BSB
[22] But the Scripture pronounces all things confined by sin, so that by faith in Jesus Christ the promise might be given to those who believe. [23] Before this faith came, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. [24] So the law became our guardian to lead us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. [25] Now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian. [26] You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. [27] For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
  • Romans 5:12-18 BSB
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned. [13] For sin was in the world before the law was given; but sin is not taken into account when there is no law. [14] Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who did not sin in the way that Adam transgressed. He is a pattern of the One to come. [15] But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many! [16] Again, the gift is not like the result of the one man’s sin: The judgment that followed one sin brought condemnation, but the gift that followed many trespasses brought justification. [17] For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive an abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ! [18] So then, just as one trespass brought condemnation for all men, so also one act of righteousness brought justification and life for all men.

We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone

We are not saved by keeping the law to get saved, or to stay saved. The law was given merely to expose our sinful condition to show us our need for a Saviour.

  • Galatians 2:21 BSB
  • I do not set aside the grace of God. For if righteousness comes through the law, Christ died for nothing.

The Law is powerless to save us!

YESHUA IS ABLE TO SAVE FOREVER THOSE WHO COME TO THE FATHER THROUGH HIM?

  • Hebrews 7:25 NASB
  • Therefore He is also able to save forever those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

The law can’t save us because it’s powerless and weak. That’s why God had to introduce the New Covenant.

Grace (God’s unmerited favor) saves us from the PENALTY of sin forever. Man-kind does not go to hell because they commit a sin. They are already going to Hell because of one man’s sin, we all became sinners.

  • John 3:18 BSB’
  • Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. Romans 3:20 BSB’ Therefore no one will be justified in His sight by works of the law. For the law merely brings awareness of sin. Romans 5:12 BSB’ Therefore, just as SIN ENTERED THE WORLD THROUGH ONE MAN, and death through sin, so also death was PASSED ON TO ALL MEN, because all sinned. Romans 5:13 BSB’ For sin was in the world before the law was given; but sin is not taken into account WHEN THERE IS NO LAW. Romans 5:16 BSB’ Again, the gift is not like the result of the one man’s sin: The judgement that followed one sin brought condemnation, but the gift that followed many trespasses brought justification.
  • Romans 5:17-21 BSB’
  • For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive an ABUNDANCE OF GRACE and of the GIFT of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ! [18] So then, just as one trespass brought condemnation for all men, so also one act of righteousness brought justification and life for all men. [19] For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous. [20] The law came in so that the trespass would increase; but where sin increased, grace increased all the more, [21] so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Reason God Made A New Covenant With The House Of Israel

Because Israel failed to walk in righteousness for any length of time, God made a New Covenant with them that would Gift us His Righteousness. Israel failed because of self-righteousness.

  • Hebrews 8:6,8-13 BSB
  • Now, however, Jesus has received a much more excellent ministry, just as the covenant He mediates is better and is founded on better promises. [8] But God found fault with the people and said: “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. [9] It will not be like the covenant I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, because they did not abide by My covenant, and I disregarded them, declares the Lord. [10] For this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord. I will put My laws in their minds and inscribe them on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they will be My people. [11] No longer will each one teach his neighbour or his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest. [12] For I will forgive their iniquities and will remember their sins no more.” [13] By speaking of a new covenant, He has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.

God Continues with Israel under a New Covenant

We Have Been Grafted Into Israel Through The New Covenant

  • Romans 11:17,19,23-24 BSB
  • Now if some branches have been broken off, and you, a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others to share in the nourishment of the olive root, [19] You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.” [23] And if they do not persist in unbelief, they will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. [24] For if you were cut from a wild olive tree, and contrary to nature were grafted into one that is cultivated, how much more readily will these, the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree!

Understanding The Word Salvation

Its important that we understand the word Salvation. Salvation is one of the most comprehensive words in scripture.

This word is written in three tenses. Past, Present, and future. If we don’t understand this, we will confuse the scriptures and misinterpret their meaning. Of course if you are not born again you will never understand scripture, as we need the Holy Spirit in us, to teach us.

Adam’s sin allowed the POWER of sin to enter man-kind. Because of this one man’s sin, we all became sinners. The sins we commit are simply the evidence that the POWER of sin is already at work in us.

For those who have been born again…

THE 3 TENSES OF THE WORD ‘SALVATION’

1. Past: Spirit. Believers HAVE BEEN saved from the PENALTY of sin once forever, the moment we were born again.

2. Present: Soul. We are BEING SAVED from the POWER of sin throughout our lives, as our minds are being renewed, or re-programmed to God’s truth, so that our life cab be transformed into His image.

3. Future: Body. We SHALL BE saved from the PRESENCE of sin when our body dies and we receive our new resurrected body, and go to live with Christ forever in His presence, without sin.

CONCLUSION

Would you agree that Yeshua is the love of God?

Would you agree that believers are one in Him?

Would you agree that Nothing can seperate us from Yeshua?

  • Romans 8:33-39 BSB’ Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. [34] Who is there to condemn us? For Christ Jesus, who died, and more than that was raised to life, is at the right hand of God—and HE IS INTERCEDING FOR US.
  • [35] Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
  • [36] As it is written: “For Your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” [37] No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
  • [38] FOR I AM CONVINCED that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, [39] neither height nor depth, NOR ANYTHING ELSE IN ALL CREATION, WILL BE ABLE TO SEPARATE US FROM THE LOVE OF GOD that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Believers are no longer sinners

Although the POWER of sin still dwells in our flesh, we are not in our sin anymore in our spirit. The believers spirit is now made perfect in Christ. They have been born again and translated out of the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of His Son. Which would be impossible if we are still sinners.

  • Our spirit has been perfected forever
  • Our soul is being perfected throughout our life (Romans 7)
  • Our flesh shall be made perfected when our body is resurrected immortal.
  • Sin is in our flesh. Influences our soul, but can’t effect our spirit which is in Christ perfected forever.
